Executive Summary

OSHRM is the initiative to create a forum for Human Resources professionals to share knowledge and to contribute to building Human Resources capability in Oman. The initiative started back in 2010, when a group of Human Resources professionals met to establish the Arabian Society for Human Resource Management, following the successful 40 year old best practice of Human Resources professionals in Saudi Arabia. In October 2010 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Petroleum Development Oman LLC, Oman’s largest oil & gas organization, to serve as the strategic partner and host for the Arabian Society for Human Resource Management activities in Oman.

The team successfully conducted several sessions hosted by major organizations in Oman such as Omantel, Oman Airports Management Company and others and addressed a number of important HR issues. Two mega conferences were also conducted with attendance exceeding 200 participants and 12 CEOs. The last was under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al-Said Assistant V.C. for External Cooperation, Sultan Qaboos University.

We were very excited by the success of our events and realized that there is significant need for a platform for Human Resources professionals in Oman and we decided to submit a formal application to the Ministry of Social Development to register this Society formally in 2012. We were delighted when other Human Resources professionals believed in us and became part of the bigger Society and joined us in this journey.

The Omani Society for Human Resource Management (OSHRM) as it stands today was established on May 21, 2014 when the government formally declared through Ministerial decree that OSHRM was a formally registered society – proudly the first and only such entity in Oman and with members from both the private and public sectors.
